About Longwave

Longwave is a short retro monster-taming RPG set in a forest distorted by radio-like static. You can defeat or recruit the creatures you encounter, build a team of three, level them up, and prepare for a boss at the end of the route.

The unusual part is the Signal Frequency. Every monster has its own point on a scale between zero and one, turning each battle into a small tuning problem as well as a turn-based fight.

Tune the Battle Signal

Moves can nudge the frequency in either direction. Reaching your active monster’s signal activates its Amplify passive, while approaching an enemy’s signal reveals the creature through the static and creates a chance to Sync with it.

Power, accuracy, guard, and focus effects still matter, but the frequency gives those familiar move choices a second purpose. A weaker attack may be valuable if it places the signal exactly where the team needs it.

Recruit a Three-Monster Team

Sync is Longwave’s recruitment action. It becomes more effective when the battle frequency is close to the target’s signal, so capturing a creature depends on controlling the fight rather than only reducing health.

With only three active slots, new recruits compete for a focused team. Choosing whose Amplify effect and moves cover the next encounter is part of reaching the final boss.

How to Play

  • Select Play and move through the forest with the arrow keys or WASD.
  • Enter encounters to inspect the enemy’s signal and available moves.
  • Use Nudge effects to move the frequency toward an important signal.
  • Trigger Amplify by matching the active ally’s frequency.
  • Approach an enemy signal and use Sync to recruit it.
  • Build and level a team of three before challenging the final boss.
